Italy's Saipem wins a $121 million offshore drilling contract from Eni

Italian offshore engineering contractor Saipem has been awarded offshore drilling contracts by two subsidiaries of Eni, with a total value of approximately USD 121 million. The operations will be located in Cyprus's exclusive economic zone and offshore Ghana, respectively. The two contracts involve a deepwater drillship and a semi-submersible drilling rig. The Cyprus project is scheduled to commence drilling operations between November 2026 and January 2027.

The Cyprus contract was awarded by Eni's subsidiary Eni Cyprus Limited. Saipem will deploy the Saipem 10000 drillship to carry out offshore drilling operations in Cyprus's exclusive economic zone. The vessel is a fifth-generation ultra-deepwater drillship. The contract specifies the operating area, drilling equipment and the expected commencement window.
The Ghana contract was awarded by Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Limited, with the Scarabeo 9 semi-submersible drilling rig as the operating unit. The rig is a sixth-generation semi-submersible drilling unit and will undertake offshore drilling tasks in Ghana. The two operations, using a drillship and a semi-submersible rig respectively, have been included in Saipem's 2026–2027 offshore drilling equipment operating schedule.
Pre-compressor Natural Gas Desanding
SAGA's high-efficiency cyclone desanders, recognized by international energy leaders, achieve a 98% separation rate. Built with advanced wear-resistant ceramics, the units capture 98% of particles as small as 0.5 microns in gas streams. This supports produced-gas reinjection for miscible flooding in low-permeability reservoirs—a key pathway to enhancing oil recovery in challenging formations. The units can also treat produced water, removing 98% of particles larger than 2 microns for direct reinjection, thereby improving water-flood efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
The new High Efficiency Ultra-Fine Particle Desander is a liquid–solid separation device based on an efficient centrifugal principle. It separates suspended impurities from fluids—liquids, gases or gas–liquid mixtures—including solids in produced water, seawater and condensate; fine particles in high-viscosity liquids; and catalyst powder in reactors. It captures solid particles down to 2 microns at 98% efficiency. The device combines high sand-removal efficiency with a compact footprint, requires no external power or chemical additives, offers an operational lifespan of about 20 years, and enables online sand discharge without production shutdown.
Field-proven in major global fields operated by CNOOC, CNPC, Petronas and others across Southeast Asia, SAGA desanders are installed on wellhead and production platforms. They ensure reliable solids removal from gas, well fluids and condensate and are essential to seawater purification, production-stream protection and water-injection/flooding programs.
SAGA’s broader separation portfolio spans membrane systems for natural gas CO₂ removal, deoiling hydrocyclones, high-performance compact flotation units (CFUs), shale gas desanding, a cyclonic dewatering package with produced water treatment, and multi-chamber hydrocyclones—delivering comprehensive solutions for the industry’s toughest challenges.
