Major Discovery: China Confirms a New 100-Million-Ton Oil Field

On September 26, 2025, the Daqing Oilfield announced a significant breakthrough: the Gulong Continental Shale Oil National Demonstration Zone confirmed an addition of 158 million tons of proven reserves. This achievement provides crucial support for the development of China's continental shale oil resources.
The Daqing Gulong Continental Shale Oil National Demonstration Zone is situated in the northern Songliao Basin, within Dorbod Mongolian Autonomous County, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. It spans a total area of 2,778 square kilometers. The project has achieved a rapid leap from "proven reserves" to "effective development," with a daily output now exceeding 3,500 tons.

The establishment of the Gulong Continental Shale Oil National Demonstration Zone by Daqing Oilfield commenced in 2021. The following year, the zone entered its initial large-scale trial production phase, yielding nearly 100,000 tons of crude. By 2024, annual production had surpassed 400,000 tons, having doubled for three consecutive years—a clear indicator of its leapfrog development. To date, the demonstration zone has drilled a total of 398 horizontal wells with a cumulative output exceeding 1.4 million tons.
This newly added proven reserves will serve as the backbone resource support for establishing a million-ton national demonstration zone by 2025. Meanwhile, CNPC's shale oil output is projected to surpass 6.8 million tons this year.
Shale is a sedimentary rock distinguished by its finely laminated, sheet-like structure. The shale oil contained within its matrix constitutes the petroleum resource in question. In contrast to conventional hydrocarbons, the extraction of shale oil necessitates the application of hydraulic fracturing technology. This involves the high-pressure injection of a fluid composed of water and proppants to induce and widen fractures in the shale formation, thus facilitating the flow of oil.
The global distribution of shale oil spans 75 basins in 21 countries, with aggregate technically recoverable resources estimated at approximately 70 billion tons. China possesses a distinctive resource endowment in this domain, with its shale oil located in five major sedimentary basins, including the Ordos and Songliao. The country has advanced to a front-tier position worldwide in terms of both extraction technology and the scale of its recoverable reserves.
It is a remarkable coincidence that this achievement comes on the very same date—September 26—that, 66 years ago, witnessed the birth of the Daqing Oilfield itself. On that day in 1959, the Songji-3 well struck a gusher of commercial oil, an event which erased the label of "oil-poor country" from China forever and opened a brilliant new chapter in the nation's petroleum history.
Shale Gas Desanding
Shale Gas Desanding is defined as the physical/mechanical removal of solid impurities (e.g., formation sand, frac sand/proppant, rock cuttings) from the water-laden shale gas stream during production. These solids are predominantly introduced during hydraulic fracturing operations. Inadequate or delayed separation can lead to:
Abrasive Damage: Accelerated wear of pipelines, valves, and compressors.
Flow Assurance Issues: Blockages in low-lying pipelines.
Instrument Failure: Clogging of instrument pressure lines.
Safety Hazards: An increased risk of production safety incidents.
The Saga Shale Gas Desander delivers superior performance through precision separation, achieving a 98% removal rate for 10-micron particles. Its capabilities are validated by authoritative certifications, including DNV/GL-issued ISO standards and NACE corrosion compliance. Engineered for maximum durability, the unit features wear-resistant ceramic internals with an anti-clogging design. Designed for effortless operation, it ensures easy installation, simple maintenance, and an extended service life, providing the optimal solution for reliable shale gas production.
